In a further sign of how shallow Britain has become a magazine called Glamour held a big award ceremony in London last night and named Victoria Beckham Woman of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year. You can only think this is a piece of gratuitous celebrity brown nosing because otherwise its just a piss take on the magazine’s readers and the people in the audience.
In the famous for being famous stakes Victoria Beckham’s way ahead of the pack, next to her Paris Hilton looks like Marie Curie. Glamour’s editor Jo Elvin see’s it a little differently. According to her ‘For the past ten years, Victoria Beckham has been a figure of fascination. She has successfully reinvented herself from pop star to devoted wife and mother, to successful designer and business mogul. She is indicative of the modern woman, successfully juggling the work/home-life balance, and is a role model in terms of achieving it all………oh, and her shit just melts in your mouth.’(Actually, she didn’t say the last line)
Mrs Beckham is good for one thing, picking up thousands of air miles flying from one red carpet to the next to give one of her ridiculous poses. ‘Successful designer, business mogul’, she’s never designed anything, just added her name to something, by that standard Wayne Rooney’s a successful author. The business mogul is Simon Fuller, her and David’s agent and the man behind the Spice Girls and American Idol.
Elvin says Victoria successfully juggles the work/home-life balance, not too difficult when the old man earns millions and you have an army of staff, and exactly what work does she do? As for being ‘indicative of the modern woman’, fake tan, fake tits, personality free and about as sexy as a can of dog food, god I hope not.
