The White Stripes and the Chelsea pensioners

You have to admire bands who challenge themselves, whether going in new musical directions or tackling new audiences. The Grammy award winning American band The White Stripes did that yesterday by playing a show for the Chelsea pensioners at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

The Chelsea pensioners are retired long serving members of the British military and live fulltime at the hospital with the majority in their 80s. The Royal Hospital currently has an appeal to raise money to rebuild their Infirmary and modernise their long wards and The White Stripes donated all the proceeds from a London gig last night to the appeal, good on ‘em.
