One of the most useful online journey planner’s I’ve come across is one run by the Department of Transport called Transport Direct.
It requires you to enter a start and finish point, the more detailed your information the better i.e. postcode, street addresses, and whether you’re travelling by car or public transport and the intended time of departure. Its comprehensive, covering all the UK and will offer a number of combinations of public transport, the changes to make, an estimated journey time and gives a detailed breakdown of each suggested route including any walking that needs to be done.
The journey planner also offers maps of the selected journey, ticket costs and the estimated CO2 emissions in case you’re worried about that sort of thing. A very useful tool if you’re trying to plan a holiday in Britain with a bit of travel around the country involved.
