Transport for London’s Journey Planner

transport1.jpgThe other day I wrote about an Interactive Tube Map that wasn’t the best for planning journeys in London. TfL’s(Transport for London) website Journey Planner is much better.

It allows you to enter your start and finish point by station or stop, postcode, address or place of interest. You can enter the time and date you want to travel, any modes of transport you don’t want to use (Tubes, Bus, River etc), whether you have any special needs such you can’t use stairs, escaltors, lifts or you’re using a wheel chair, the amount of walking you’re willing to do and whether you want the fastest routes or the one with the least changes.

It’ll then give you a detailed breakdown of a number of routes you can take using various combinations of bus, train, Underground, DLR and walking, the times to start your journey and the estimated time it’ll take.

They breakdown each section of a route telling you how long it should take, whether stations have stairs, escaltors or lifts and offer pdf maps of each section. Its a very comprehensive tool and if you need some help getting anywhere in London this should give you almost idiot proof directions on how to do it.
