Thank god the Paula Radcliffe nonsense has died down a bit today.
Yesterday and sunday you couldn’t get away from it, tv, radio and newspapers all going overboard because one of our athletes who was fancied to win a gold medal blew out in the marathon.

Radcliffe didn’t help the situation by bursting into floods of tears after she dropped out and in every interview she’s given since.

Look she was the race favourite going into it but couldn’t handle the conditions, others could so get over it.
I can’t believe it when I hear commentators on the BBC say they shouldn’t be allowed to run marathons in places like Athens and Beijing in the summer. Why, because Paula can’t win them.

The race was the same for all the runners, some just dealt with them better.

Good comment, Joe. Totally agree.

Your “Sport in general, even ping pong, has a funny way of bringing the elite minded back down to earth with a large bump,” is on the mark.
