Diwali This month is the celebration of Diwali, the festival of lights marking the last day of the Hindu year. Diwali is actually celebrated over a number of days with each day involving worship, rituals and offerings to different goddesses. Diwali on the Square is a major event in Trafalgar Square this Sunday October 15 from 4-8pm that is free and features music, dance and light displays. Lots of areas of London will be having Diwali events especially places like Southall and Brent where there is a large Hindu population.
London Craft Fair Origin-The London Craft Fair is now taking place until October 15 from 11am-6pm at Somerset House, a beautiful building on the Thames next to Waterloo Bridge. 300 British and international designers will be showing and selling their work. Tickets £8, nearest tube Temple, Embankment or Covent Garden.
Cartoon History of the Labour Party An exhibition at the Political Cartoon Gallery focusing on our glorious leader Tony Blair and his Labour Party cronies through the years. It runs from October 12th-December 24th, Mon-Fri 9.30-5.30pm, Sat 11.30-5.30pm, tickets are only £1. The Political Cartoon Gallery is on Store Street, off Tottenham Court Road between Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road stations.
Zidane:A 21st Century Portrait In April 2005 directors Douglas Gordon & Philippe Parreno took 17 cameras to the Real Madrid v Villareal game and focused them all on Zinedine Zidane for the whole 92 minutes the game lasted. Watch the great man work his magic up close in a unique sporting profile. Its playing at selected cinemas in central London, check the listings for times.
A Trip to the Mountains in Vietnam The International Gallery of Children’s Art is holding an exhibition of paintings by 32 poor and deprived children from Ho Chi Minh City who were taken on a trip to the Vietamese countryside in July this year. The gallery is open from 4-6pm Tues-Thur, 12-6pm Fri-Sun and is at the O2 Centre, 255 Finchley Road nearest tube Finchley Road or Swiss Cottage. Admission is free.
