Today I had one of those times where you really wished you had a camera on you.
Driving with one of my bosses in the Luton area, traffic came to a grinding halt then started inching along the road.
Looking up ahead we could see the flashing lights on the back of a police van and thought there must have been an accident as the traffic had to funnel around the van and a police car parked in front of it.
Only when we got close to the police vehicles could we see the reason for the hold up. On the side of a grass bank two policemen stood about 20ft apart, each holding a 6ft riot shield in front of them, a third officer was a little way down the bank talking into a radio and in between the shield holders, sitting contentedly on the grass, was a swan.
Bedfordshire’s finest looked a little out of their depth and were probably calling for more back up, although the swan might have got fed up and flown away by the time it arrived, but it would have made a great picture.
