Ready for the draw

FIFA have announced the seeded teams for the World Cup draw on Friday night and the pools that the other teams will be drawn from.

FIFA have used results at the last two World Cups and the last three years world rankings to come up with the seeds, England somehow came out as seed 2 and are ranked #9 in the world currently. The Czech Republic, Holland and the US are world ranked 2, 3 and 8 at the moment but none are seeded.

FIFA have said ‘economic and geographical’ reasons can be taken into account in the draw and I’m sure they will be, watch out for the hot balls coming out of the pots on Friday.

Here are the pools the eight groups of four will be drawn from, one team from each pool.

World Cup seeds

Pool A Pool B Pool C Pool D
England Australia Croatia Iran
Germany Angola Czech Republic Japan
Brazil Ghana Holland Saudi Arabia
Argentina Ivory Coast Poland South Korea
Mexico Togo Portugal Costa Rica
Italy Tunisia Sweden Trinidad & Tobago
Spain Ecuador Switzerland United States
France Paraguay Ukraine
Special Serbia & Montenegro

England vs. Australia! Good fun even if it doesn’t turn out to be a great game.

I think the most interesting group is Spain Ecuador Switzerland United States. None of the teams are world shakers, but all could drop a big team on their day.
